The BRIT Awards aired this week on ITV, hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall, crowning the best in British and International Music.

Dua Lipa and Stormzy

Millions watched as 22-year-old English newcomer Dua Lipa won ‘Best British Female’ and the ‘Breakthrough Award’, while Gorillaz were named ‘Best British Group’. Harry Styles won for ‘British Artist Video of the Year’ with his song ‘Sign of the Times’, as Kiwi artist Lorde and American artists Kendrick Lamar and the Foo Fighters took the titles for ‘Best International Male/Female Solo Artist’ and ’Best International Group’.

Notable bad boy Liam Gallagher left viewers in tears with his poignant ‘Live Forevertribute to the Manchester terror attack victims. Gallagher was pulled in last minute to cover American singer Ariana Grande, whose concert was targeted in the Manchester bombing, after she was forced to pull out due to ill health.

South London grime superstar Stormzy performed his hit song ‘Blinded by Your Grace’ to end the show before launching into a freestyle rap, saying, “Yo, Theresa May where’s that money for Grenfell? What you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?” referring to the tragic fire on June 14th, 2017 which killed 71 people and left hundreds homeless.

In a surprise result, Stormzy also beat global superstar Ed Sheeran to the main prizes, winning both ‘British Album of the Year’ for his album ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ and ‘Best British Male Solo Artist’. However, Sheeran didn’t go home empty-handed; he was given the ‘Global Success Award’.
